Soccer can be so cruel!

We improved greatly on our performance against the same team in the Fall season.

This was a very competitive game between two evenly matched teams. We had a number of excellent goal scoring opportunities but we failed to convert on any of them.  Our team played a strong game throughout but we were punished for our lack of finishing when P-R scored on a breakaway in the last seconds of the game.

Hampton

1-1

Our girls worked very hard and we competed well even when an injury  reduced us to ten players for a period of the game.  A defensive lapse late in the first half allowed Hampton to score against the run of play. We fought back quickly after the break to equalize the score.  Overall, we lacked precision and struggled to play up to our potential. Despite the best efforts of our players we were unable to translate our individual skills into the desired result for the team.

Shaler

3-0

Good team performance.

Our defense was very sound and limited Shaler to few scoring opportunities. An excellent save by Brittany on a PK prevented Shaler from taking the lead in the first half. Our midfield outplayed their opponents for most of the game and provided our forwards with good opportunities. Our forwards combined well together and scored three great goals. Mandy scored the first goal just before the half when Laura delivered a perfect pass across the goal off Sara’s corner kick.  Mandy returned the favor delivering a through ball which Laura finished with style after a long run. Mandy completed the scoring with our third goal close to the end.

North Hills

1-3

The game was decided in the first half when a good North Hills team scored three goals. We responded well after the break and Mandy reduced the deficit with a well-taken goal. Sara filled in nicely at the sweeper position against a tough opponent.

Fox Chapel

0-0

The gusty winds and high grass made it very difficult for the teams to play soccer. It was difficult to create and convert on goal scoring opportunities. Our girls put forth a strong effort and earned the tie in a very close game.

Sewickley

4-0

We produced our best performance so far this season.

The defense played strong and effectively shut down the Sewickley offense.  Our midfield played creatively and dominated the game. Our offense played well individually and in combination. Mandy, Michele and Maura (2) scored the goals.
