5-1

Recovered from a slow start.

Nice comeback after a very shaky first half.  Matt’s hat-trick led the way back. A goal by Ryan and an own-goal off a good corner kick from John sealed our victory. Better communication between our players and quick passing will deliver much better results.

Good defense.

Two goals by Chris gave us the victory. Our team dominated the play for most of the game.  The defense was strong and limited the NH team to very few opportunities. We need better teamwork and finishing by the mid-field and forwards to score more goals. Nice job by Ryan and Nick in goal. Cool header by Chris on the first goal.

Shaler

8-2

A strong overall performance.

We outplayed the Shaler team with a combination of skill, aggressiveness and good teamwork. Goals by John (3), Matt (2), Nich (1), Ricky (1) and Chris (1).  Tyler enjoyed his first experience in goal.

 Another strong game.

We controlled play in the first half and took a 2-1 lead when John scored his second by charging down a clearance by the goalie.  Playing downhill in the second half, we quickly increased our advantage. Ryan capitalized on a mix-up in the defense to score the first of two second half goals.  Nick and Matt added a goal each to put the game out of reach.

Took our chances well.

The game was close in the early stages but as time elapsed we took control.  Nick made some nice saves in goal in the first half. Tyler was solid in goal in the second half and was unlucky to concede a goal before the end.  Alex was rewarded with his first goal of the season after a typically dominant performance.  Matt was tough to beat in the center of our solid defense.  Ryan scored a superb individual goal when he somehow worked his way through four defenders before looping the ball over the goalie into the net.  Chris (1) and John (4) completed the scoring.

2-1

Narrow victory.

Poor field conditions made it very difficult to play soccer.  In the beginning the field was rock hard and bumpy.  Then the rain came, the surface became slick, and the players had difficulty keeping their footing. Our team struggled to find a rhythm.  Our play consisted of a combination of kick-ball and individual dribbling.  As a result we did not create many chances.  Fox Chapel took the lead when the coach gave confusing instructions to the players during a substitution, leaving our team without a left defender.  Our team was determined to overcome the obstacles and we fought back with a goal each from Chris and John.  Good play in goal by Nick and Chris was one of the keys to victory.

2-3

First loss of  the season

Same field as last week, even worse playing conditions.  The field was drenched in water and the high grass in many places made it even more challenging.  But the field was the same for both teams.  Fox Chapel took advantage of their chances and defended well.  We had many opportunities to score but one goal by John and one by Matt was all we could produce.  We were made to pay the price for our lack of sharpness in offense and lapses in concentration in defense. A lesson that we needed to learn!

Five great wins to post the best record of the U10 Boys.

Harmar 3, Hampton-Gold 0                  Harmar 3, Fox Chapel-Red 1        Harmar 3, TwinBoro 0

Harmar 1, Fox Chapel-White 0             Harmar 2, Fox Chapel-Gold 1.

What an exciting tournament and a great boost for our players towards the end of the season!  Maliki scored his first goal of the season on a strong right-footed shot from outside the box!  Ryan pierced the defense and scored with his left to score the critical goal against our nemesis (FC-White).  Nick and Chris were fabulous in goal, allowing only two goals in the entire tournament.  Matt Matisko showed he can play with the big boys.  Luke and Ricky played strong ball all day.  John and Matt shared the central defense and central offensive positions with flair and strength. Lots of great goals: John (6), Matt (2), Nick (2), Ryan (1), Maliki (1).
